Review: Road trip day three: Your Thai: Rice and Noodle Bar, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

Road trip day three: Apollo Bay – Melbourne

After an evening consisting of satisfying pizza, a few drinks and games of the brilliant monopoly deal card game we set off bright and early for the last leg of the Great Ocean Road. In comparison to the day before it was quite different. This section of the road is much more what we had expected – driving along the coast and admiring the beautiful coastline and different bays along the way. One section of the drive was through some beautiful woods on fun windy roads. There are many towns to stop along the way should you wish, all offering beaches to visit.

We stopped for lunch and a surf in Lorne – home to the big new years eve music festival and many holiday makers. The beach was very busy here and the surf quite challenging that day! There was plenty of activity going on as it was school holidays. After our surf and some very tasty sushi from Chopsi we made a move and drove the final leg to Melbourne.

Arriving in Melbourne was exciting although also slightly scary negotiating the trams as well as roads in the city! We dropped the car off, found a hostel and headed out for some grub! We found ourselves wondering along Swanston Street – one of the main roads in the CBD of Melbourne. At the southern end of the road you will find Federation Square and the Flinder Street Station and many of the main tourist attractions of Melbourne are around this area.

Further up the street you find a cluster of Asian restaurants of which we tried a few of during our stay. Night one we chose the vibrant ‘Your Thai’. With an all picture menu it can take some time to look over all the dishes! This place offers some good menu deals where you get soup, a main and spring rolls along with a drink for a good price. I think all that choice was too much and so I went for the classic pad thai which I love! I also discovered what has gone on to be one of my favourite drinks on the trip: the avocado smoothie. Wow! I never would have thought of it but it is so delicious! Really creamy, thick and delicious this drink became a regular order for me during my stay in Melbourne! The food as well was really tasty here and presented really well.

I’m not sure if this is a chain restaurant but it looks like it may be. However, we certainly enjoyed our food, the service was good and swift and we found ourselves enjoying food at an affordable price!
